Steps to Attaching a Webcam to a Telescope

Setting Up the Webcam

Begin by taking the basic lens of your webcam off. You may need to unscrew the lens. From there, take off the rubber part on the microchip. Place the adapter of the webcam into the hole where the basic lens was initially.

You can make the adapter with an old film canister if your budget is limited. If this is the case, you’ll need to cut out a circle on the bottom of the canniest and glue the canister to the webcam. Building an Infrared Telescope Camera

Did you know that infrared cameras can successfully capture a wide range of light that cannot be seen by the naked eye? Infrared radiation isn’t usually visible, but with the right kind of telescope camera, you can see images that are on the infrared spectrum. This is done by removing the infrared filter on the camera.

Here are some steps for creating your own infrared camera:

Access the digital sensor by dismantling your camera. The body of cheap point and shoot cameras are typically joined together with glue. The more expensive cameras, like digital single lens reflex cameras, are often held together using screws. Now, read the instructions for cleaning the digital sensor.
